What causes type 2 diabetes and who is at risk?

Type 2 diabetes is developed when the body becomes resistant to insulin or the pancreas are unable to produce the required amount of insulin. The most common causes of Type 2 diabetes include genetics and lifestyle. Type 2 diabetes can be hereditary. You are at a greater risk of developing Type 2 diabetes if your mother, father or sibling has diabetes. Lifestyle plays an important role too in Type 2 diabetes.

Lack of exercise, unhealthy meal planning, and obesity can affect the development of Type 2 diabetes. You can develop Type 2 diabetes if you are overweight, inactive, had gestational diabetes, prediabetic, or had a family history of diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes can be controlled by making healthy lifestyle choices.
