During pregnancy, you can initially manage gestational diabetes by monitoring the blood sugar levels, performing regular physical activity, and adopting a healthy eating plan.
Follow the following guidelines:
- Make good lifestyle choices and maintain a healthy weight and BMI\
- Eat healthy foods and drink lots of water
- Measure your health parameters regularly
- Do not miss your scheduled doctor appointments.
Most women who have gestational diabetes deliver normal babies. But if you have gestational diabetes, it is necessary to manage it properly. If it is not well looked after properly, it may result in complications. Some woman may need insulin injections to manage gestational diabetes for the rest of their pregnancy. Once the baby is born, insulin will no longer be needed.
Gestational diabetes usually disappears after the baby is born. You doctor may ask you to appear for a special blood glucose test every six weeks after delivery. This test is done to ensure that blood glucose levels have returned to normal.
