Gestational diabetes is a condition that develops during pregnancy. It affects how the body of the pregnant woman produces insulin to control her blood sugar levels which can be harmful for both mother and the baby.
Gestational diabetes can be prevented or the risk of developing it can atleast be minimised by:
- Achieving a healthy diet: If you control your weight before conceiving it will give you and your baby a healthy start
- Exercise: You should exercise to prevent gaining too much weight during pregnancy
- Eat healthy foods: You should eat foods that are good for your health and drink a lot of water
- Visit your doctor regularly: Make sure you attend all your scheduled doctor’s appointments
If you are diagnosed with gestational diabetes you should see a certified diabetes educator as advised by your doctor. He will help you with glucose monitoring as well as lifestyle management.
