Diabetes can take a toll on your entire body including your oral health. Diabetes is linked to tooth loss mainly because people with diabetes are more susceptible to periodontal disease. Periodontal diseases are the infections that cause loss of tissue in the gums and other tooth-supporting structures such as bone.

If you are suffering from diabetes, your ability to resist infections lower down which causes slow healing. This may cause chronic inflammation and erosions in your mouth and can aggravate periodontal disease which may affect your dental health.

Periodontitis can also elevate your blood sugar levels, which can make your diabetes more difficult to control. It is important for you to visit your dentist regularly and prevent or treat periodontitis with regular dental cleanings.
